Favorite Savage 10ML-II Stuff

Rather than embark on any elongated treatise of the pros and cons of various 10ML-II necessities, I'll just list what I prefer to use at the moment-- and characterize it all as just personal favorites.

I. BULLETS

That would be the Barnes 300MZ-Expanders with the supplied HPH12 MMP sabot.

II. POWDER

Accurate Arms 5744 is choice; 45 grains by weight with the above bullet. Vihtavouri N120, 60 grains, is also a favorite-same projectile.

III. PRIMERS

I prefer Federal 209A primers, however I use Winchester 209s as well with good results.

IV. VENTLINERS and POWDER VIALS

No shocker here; I use my own.

V. BASES

I use Weaver Grand Slam steel two piece bases, part #S46 front and rear. The specific number for matte black bases is 48227.

VI. RINGS

I use Warne Maxima Quick Release steel rings, medium height on all my Savages-and most all of my muzzleloaders. The medium height rings handle up to a 44mm objective.

VII. SCOPES

Either Sightron SII or Bushnell Elite 4200 scopes are on all my Savages. Every game animal taken in the last several years has been with Sightron or Bushnell product

.
VIII. RAMROD

The XS Sights PowerRod, 22" (same length as the factory Savage rod) is my ramrod of choice. I also carry an XS Sights back-up rod in my shooting bag. See http://www.xssights.com

.
IX. CLEANERS and LUBRICANTS

I use Never-Seez Blue Moly on the breechplug; Birchwood-Casey Choke Tube Lube resides in the shooting bag and also does a fine job. Good old Hoppe's No. 9 cleans the bore; Breakfree CLP protects it.

X. RECOIL PAD

The Sims Limbsaver pre-fit pad, # 10601 is a drop in for the laminated 10ML-II, and works beautifully. All Sims precision-fit pads fit their templates; it is wise to check the Sims template first before ordering your pad as stocks can vary a bit. Naturally Sims has no control over that.

WHERE TO GET THE GOODIES

Brownells and Midway USA can fix you up with most everything listed here. Powder and primers are readily available from Graf & Sons if you don't have a local source.
